Various Brands of IPod Speakers

!±8± Various Brands of IPod Speakers

In October 2001, Apple launched iPod, a brand of portable Media player. The iPod is perhaps one of the best known and loved gadgets of this decade. Currently, the line up consists of hard drive based flagship iPod classic, iPod touch, iPod nano and the low end screen less iPod shuffle. iPod can also serve as an external data storage device. We can say that iPod has changed the way people think about music on the move.

In course of time, iPod speakers came into existence. Companies like Logitech, Zeppelin, Ferguson, Altec Lansing, Chestnut Hill, etc., manufacture various kinds of iPod speakers. Let's look at the features of the iPod speakers of the above mentioned companies.

The B&W Zeppelin is oblong in shape and houses two woofers, two tweeters and a subwoofer behind its soft cloth non removable grille. The speaker has a loud sound with well defined bass. The egg shaped remote has a silver rear panel with a rubber plug that hides the non rechargeable battery. The controls are limited to track forward and backward buttons, play/pause, volume up and down, power, and a toggle button that pauses the iPod and switches to the aux input and vice versa.

Ferguson Hill FH007 and FH008 sound really good and look very beautiful too. In this speaker the tweeters and the woofers for each channel are housed in separate acrylic enclosures, instead of within one wood speaker block like we find in most of the traditional speakers. They work perfectly with a personal computer or an Apple iPod. Because of its irregular shape, this speaker system will need a little more shelf space than most other speakers. The woofers, housed in clear spheres with the front side cut away, have an eight inch diameter. Since the speakers are so light in weight, a heavy bass rumble produced by the sub woofer could potentially vibrate them enough to cause movement.

The distinctive 8.5 inch wide screen in Altec Lansing iMV712 is its major selling point. The screen, which sits between the speakers, is designed for viewing iPod content or videos from external devices like camcorders. The system comes with a membrane button remote that includes all the necessary functions. There is also composite video cable added with usual array of plastic dock adapters for each and every iPod model.

Apple iPod Hi Fi is a three way combination speaker and can be controlled by two touch sensitive buttons for adjusting the volume. Aside from the power jack, the only port is an auxiliary audio input, which accommodates either 3.5 mm analog cables or optical digital cables. If the personal computer or external USB sound card has an optical output then this digital input is excellent for getting sound.

The iPod Hi Fi comes with the standard Apple wireless infrared remote. The set up of the speaker is as simple as plugging it in or inserting batteries. Placing the speaker in the audio lab about 10 inches from the rear wall and equidistant from the sidewalls keeps the sound as smooth as possible.

The George, an audio system by Chestnut Hill, is meant for fourth generation Apple iPods. It has super cable and puts up unbelievably good sound. The speakers are neither upward angled nor detachable. The left and the right speakers are roughly 6 inches apart.

Portable Computer Speakers - What to Look For

!±8± Portable Computer Speakers - What to Look For

When shopping for portable computer speakers there are several things that consumers should look for. The first, and what for many is the most important issue, is sound quality. This can vary widely in the industry, and will usually get better the more money you are willing to spend. That being said, there are several companies that offer high-quality sound, for a reasonable amount of money.

The next thing to consider when making your portable computer speaker purchase is how mobile you need them to be. If you travel often, and need speakers that can easily fit in a laptop bag or suitcase, your options will be a bit more limited, although there are still dozens of choices on the market. If your speakers will remain at home, but you still want to be able to move them from room to room, this will open up your options considerably.

Next, when considering portable computer speakers, consider their power source. Many options on the market are USB powered, however, there are also battery powered, and options that have to be plugged into the wall. Keep these options in mind while shopping, and make sure to get what's best for you. If you are going to be using your speakers outdoors, or traveling quite often, you probably won't want speakers that have to be plugged into the wall. And changing batteries can also get old, although USB powered options sometimes aren't as powerful as others.

You can also buy portable computer speakers that are wireless and work with bluetooth, which can be nice, especially if you need the speakers to be across the room from your computer, or if you travel often. It can be good not to have to deal with the hassle of wires. However, wireless speakers don't usually have as high quality of sound output as many wired options, and the batteries can often run out quite quickly. You have to decide whether this is important.

Other options to consider are whether the portable computer speakers are also compatible with mp3 players. Do they have a headphone jack? Do they have a subwoofer output? All questions to be considered depending on how exactly you plan to use the product and what you want to get out of it. With a little research and by shopping around, each individual is sure to come up with the right speakers for them.

The Bose SoundDock Range

!±8± The Bose SoundDock Range

Bose have a great reputation in the audio market for the excellent product design, build quality and of course their audio performance. Best known for their high end hi-fi equipment and wave speaker technology, Bose have turned their attention to the digital market over the past few years and now hold true their excellent reputation in the iPod dock market with the highly rated Bose SoundDock range of docking stations. These SoundDocks are fantastic way to quickly transform your iPod music collection from their rather tinny headphone only world into a full on hi-fi experience in your home (or even on the move depending on which model you go for!).

The SoundDock range is split into four different models each with different features to cater to individual needs. Despite the vary level of price between the different models they all share one thing in common which is fantastic audio reproduction. The base model, its full moniker being the 'Bose Sounddock iPod Digital Music System' will cover most peoples needs and does exactly what you'd expect. Simply dock your iPod in the cradle and you'll be enjoying rich quality sound in your living room. The base model, as with every model in the range, charges your iPod when it's docked, and comes with a remote.

The next model up is called the Series II and is more or less the same as the base model with the exception of one particular feature - the Series II is also equipped with an auxiliary port so you can use pretty much any kind of audio equipment with it, not just your iPod. The third model in the series is called the SoundDock Portable... can you guess what sets this one apart? Running from a rechargeable battery, as opposed to mains power, the SoundDock Portable can be grabbed by its carry handle and hey presto, you've got the Bose audio experience on the move! The final, top end model in the range is the SoundDock 10 - a genuine big brother to the rest of the series it really is a significant step up from its smaller siblings.

Whilst the rest of the range share very similar, if not identical innards, the SoundDock 10 usually a substantially higher end speaker and amplifier set up for genuine high-end hi-fi quality sound. The price of the SoundDock 10 is a tad eye watering, especially when compared to the lower models in the range, but for the audiophile it is certainly worth investigating if nothing but the best will do!
